Outdoor American Flags: Nylon or Poly Max?
Most outdoor buyers are choosing between two fabrics, and the right one depends on where your flag flies.
- Eder Endura Nylon® American Flags are made from aniline-dyed, heavyweight 200-denier nylon. Nylon is the lighter of the two fabrics, so it tends to fly well even in light wind.
- Eder Poly Max American Flags use a 2-ply polyester built for sun, rain, and wind. If your flagpole sits in an exposed spot with steady wind, this is the fabric to look at. Poly Max is listed as 100% Made in the USA.
Need a flag that takes more punishment? The Endura Nylon REINFORCED and Poly Max REINFORCED versions add extra vertical and zigzag stitching and reinforced corners at the fly end, where flags wear out first.
Government-Specified and Indoor American Flags
Government Specified U.S. Flags follow the official 1 to 1.9 hoist-to-fly ratio used by many institutions of the U.S. government, and are available in nylon or cotton. For ceremonies, offices, and display, our indoor American parade flags are made to be displayed on a stand or carried in a procession.
What Size American Flag Do I Need?
A common guideline is a flag whose fly (length) is roughly one-quarter to one-third the height of your flagpole. These are typical pairings:
| Flagpole Height | Typical Flag Size |
|---|---|
| 20 ft | 3' x 5' or 4' x 6' |
| 25 ft | 4' x 6' or 5' x 8' |
| 30 ft | 5' x 8' |
| 40 ft | 6' x 10' or 8' x 12' |
| 50 ft | 8' x 12' or 10' x 15' |
| 60 ft | 10' x 15' or 12' x 18' |
